| This is the brand-new home page for the brand-new Nuphobia studio for audio media in Berlin. Good morning! First, apologies are in order for the incomplete state of the site; the studio has been under construction for just under a year, is now ALMOST ready for take-off, and finally I can begin turning my attention to other things, like these pages. I'll try to curb my habitual long-windedness for the moment, and keep this short, but 2006 was a remarkable - and very difficult - year, so I'd like to bring you up to date after a long long process of rebuilding. At the very end of 2005, Claustrophobia Sound Studio, which had been operating in Berlin for about three years, was served (I almost wrote „severed“) with an eviction notice, the building in which it was housed having been singled out for some crassly speculative business manoevers by its owner, a certain semi-privatised former office of the German federal government. Those familiar with Günther Grass's essays will only roll their eyes in sympathy at hearing this... So I had to break down all the walls I'd built, and start again. In February of 2006 construction began at the new premises, in Kreuzberg. It's been hard, I'd be lying if I denied it. At first I thought I was living out a tragedy. But now that it's almost over and I'm poised to get back into business, I feel better than ever: The new studio is bigger, airier, brighter, and above all better made than the last one, and newly re-conceived with a lot of new equipment and expanded capabilities. So I needed a new name, and a new image, and that's why we now find ourselves here, in Nuphobia. Welcome, and may our new working relationship be a great one for all of us. This site will be updated soon with pictures and all the bells and whistles, so please be patient just a little longer. For now, feel free to use the above contact-info to get in touch. The e-mail address above isn't a link, but it works if you'll just copy/ paste or type it in- that's in the hope that I can do something to control the massive amounts of spam I've been getting... Again, welcome, and I hope to see you soon! All the best, Phil Freeborn |
